SUMMARY

Kimberly Park Point Park Lighthouse
Kimberly Point Park, City of Neenah, Winnebago County
Architect: Unknown
Date of Construction: 1945

The Kimberly Point Park Lighthouse was the last of five recreational park facilities contributed to the City of Neenah by the community's leading paper industrialist during the first half of the twentieth century. Financed with a gift from J. C. Kimberly, son of Kimberly-Clark founder J. A. Kimberly, the lighthouse served as a city park rest station, as a link in the U. S. Coast Guard's navigational system, and as a landmark for boat races held at the northern end of Lake Winnebago.

Constructed in 1945 before the wartime ban on new construction was lifted, the lighthouse was expected to restore interest to their prewar levels of the annual regattas held by the Inland Lakes Yachting Association. Although boat racing never again achieved the participation and public attention they attracted in the decades prior to World War II, the Kimberly Point Park Lighthouse succeeded in evolving into an iconic symbol of the city and its history.

The lighthouse may be visited during regular park hours.
