Job Duties

This is a day shift position working under the general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Superintendent at the Wisconsin Historical Society, located at 816 State Street, conveniently located on Madison bus transportation routes. The WHS is directly across from the beautiful Memorial Union and Terrace, adjacent to Library Mall, and is within walking distance of many of Madison’s well-known business and recreational areas.

The Shipping and Mailing Associate has responsibility for the operation of the WHS mailroom. The main responsibilities are to independently perform a wide variety of dock and mail room services at the Wisconsin Historical Society’s headquarters building, 816 State Street in Madison, Wisconsin. This includes pickup, sorting and distribution of all mail, packaging of outgoing mail and handling of inbound and outbound freight transactions. In addition, this position is responsible for the recording of patron and personal checks mailed to the Society and sent to various divisions within the Society. (This does not include handling of Payroll, Purchasing or Fiscal operations checks.) 45% of this position’s time will be performing and/or assisting with custodial/maintenance/grounds duties. The employee works alone or as part of a team as directed.

Qualifications

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Previous experience in shipping, mailing and receiving is desired, although transferable skills would be considered. Punctuality, flexibility, and superb attendance are required, along with three previous employment references.

This position is well-suited to a person who will appreciate and enjoy working with a diverse and dedicated staff.
